Gerunds vs Infinitives

Gerunds (verb-ing) and infinitives (to + verb) can both function as nouns. Some verbs are followed by gerunds, some by infinitives, and some by either with a change in meaning.

Why it matters: Knowing which form follows which verb is essential for correct grammar.

Main uses:

  • Gerund as subject/noun
  • Verbs followed by gerund
  • Verbs followed by infinitive
  • Verbs followed by either (with meaning change)
